Two Completely Unrelated Items.

1.  Bright Abbott (Chris Pratt) will be in a 6-episode story arc on The OC this fall.  Sadly this gives me a reason to watch The OC which had just about erased itself from my list.  Happily, hello more Chris Pratt.

2. Thought you'd all enjoy seeing my friend Girl Detective's post on Project Runway this week as it brings up some of the same sexism Michelle pointed out in our roundup.

The last-ever episode of Everwood is half over...

And we are still at least 60-90 minutes away from me being able to watch it (perhaps even 120 depending on how the rest of the evening goes).  Oh the agony! The torture!  It's ALL I can think about!  :(

Getting Ready for Fall.

Some posts of interest over here: a) full descriptions of all the new CBS, NBC and ABC shows and changes to the lineup; as well as b) a short interview with Grey's writer Shonda Rimes.

In general lineup change news: Grey's moving to Thursdays; Without a Trace moving to Sundays; Veronica will be on combo network CW, as well as One Tree Hill; but no Everwood (OTH over Everwood? man, people are DUMB).

Mariko already turned me on to the Grey's Writers' Blog - it's got some interesting stuff.

Some Miscellaneous/Grey's/Everwood Trivia

1) Grey's season finale will be a multi-parter on two nights, Sunday, May 14 9pm-10pm (EST) and Monday May 15 8pm-10pm (EST).   (I could be off on these times...these could be Central, not sure.)  Uh oh...will Everwood have ended by then?

2) "Denny" is not only also acting on Weeds and Supernatural, but is also (or "was") dating "Madison" from Everwood!!

3) Here is a pretty comprehensive looking list of season finales (altho they are missing Everwood).  And here's another (still no Everwood. It's like the invisible show!!).

In Which Carolyn Watches Too Much TV. Is Anyone Else Watching?

The OC:  Soooo 2005. Is this entire season really just a repeat of last season?  Seth screws up prom, but then apologizes; Ryan gets in a near-death fight over Marissa's honor; and Kirstin is driven to drink.  Indeed, Cassie, it was brilliant to have a pirate-themed prom, but otherwise...  I enjoyed watching it, but the more I think about the specific happenings of the episode, the more irritated I am with this show.  And the thing that bugged me the most about it:  Why would Theresa, supposedly now a total career woman, go to a high school prom?   What a stupid plot device to get her back on the show and cause "conflict" in Ryan's attentions.

Without a Trace:  Everything I need to know I learned in kindergarten.  A rare appearance by one of Jack's daughters who has some sage advice and acts more grownup than anyone else in the episode.

NUMB3RS: Guns are scary.  It is possible this episode once again had too much shooting for my parents' dog Patience (she prefers romantic comedies, no joke).  Very intricate storyline.  Deception and lies within the FBI!  Don was awesome in the confrontation with "Earl" or whatever his name was...  But no romance this episode.  When your only chance for romantic encounters is via TV, it kinda sucks when they give you NOTHING to nibble on.

Grey's Anatomy:  And now I hate Alex a LOT.  OK, so honestly, I never hated Alex before.  I thought he was secretly kinda hot in that smarmy way that sucks but you must admit is still sexy.  I realize that SOMEONE on the show had to be anti the prego woman lying to her husband.  But it just didn't make any sense at all for it to be him.  Boy who sleeps around, lies about STDs and generally shows a "loose" concept of morals, if any, is suddenly upset over some woman asking for a secret tube-tying?  I didn't buy it -- still don't.

Loved, loved, loved the Denny/Izzy interactions.  Loved them.

Hate Chris O'Donnell, there's no saving that storyline for me.  Hated Derek seeing her come down post-shower.  Saw that same "click off" in his eyes again.  Hated him USING Addison (cause I guess I really like her, who knew) for sex because let's face it the only person he wanted to do right then was Meredith.  HATE George's short hair, which is quite odd coming from my strong short-haired-boy preference.   Loved the him/Callie interactions.   Burke and Christina appear to be OK but one can still sense a disconnection happening.  The Nazi is pissed as would I be.  Previews for next week are totally giving me worries.

Everwood: Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them.  A rare father-son double screw-up by the Abbotts.  Bright crying to Amy was pretty amazing.  Hannah's reaction was probably about what one had to expect. Ephram had his head in the right place.  Could care less about Delia and Andy so fortunately not much of them here. Too much Reid though.  One of those "bit character story lines so we can deal with an issue that doesn't work with any of our main characters."  Who cares.  Otherwise: such a good show.  Can't even get season 2 on DVD.  May not be renewed next year in WB/UPN combo land.  Ugh.  I wish I had been taping down the episodes all year.  :(

And now I will crawl back into my hole and watch some more TV.  Veronica Mars TONIGHT!!  Only two episodes left! (I think. No?)

Some TV Bits in 4/7 EW.

Full page on Arrested Development (or 2/3 page photo, 1/3 page text).  Showtime offered to continue the show but creator Mitch Hurwitz turned them down.  Didn't want to put his life on hold, felt it was time to move on.  Interesting, I didn't know that.

Although note that he is open to the show continuing in other ways.  He suggests merchandising:  I have a feeling the merchandising on Buster alone would be enormous.  Everyone would have a little stuffed Buster. I know I would.

Also a sidebar on the latest "product placement" on Everwood:  Hannah's new Mercury Milan.  I remember noticing it at the time and thinking: "What? That was kinda specific."  Funny to read about it here:  If they came to us saying 'We want Hannah to have a spaceship,' that would be one thing, but it worked very well in this situation, said co-producer David Hudgins.

Everwood: Bright, Bright, Bright, Bright.

Imagine yourself chitchattin' with Bright Abbot, in a yarn store, and then winding up in a crazy making out on the table scene (which led to off-camera sex).  Hello is that not MY dream????  Yarn.  And Bright.  Together.  Yum.

Unfortunately this also involved cheating on Hannah, but they have made her kinda whiny over the last couple of episodes.

Given that Amy used to be the whiny one, it is a little annoying to see her become all thoughtful and introspective and Hannah become a total whiner.  But as long as it gets Bright more screentime I think I can deal with it.  Ephram's realization that he wants to be a teacher, not a performer, was handled quite nicely, and his voicemail to Madison was pretty heartbreaking.

PartyofFive can get his sad ass off this show already, he is soooo boring.

Next week:  lots more Bright as the cheating is revealed.  Woot.

p.s. Did it freak anybody else out that

a) the actress he cheated with is that CRAZY girl from Nip/Tuck. So you just know she's going to turn out to be a stalker or something.

and b) hello a red lacy bra on Everwood? What time is this show on?  Usually the sex bits are much less risque than that on what is usually promoted as a "family" show.  (Hey, Bright with no shirt on is fine by me, I'm just sayin' is all...)

April 11, 2006

Catching up with Everwood, the OC, Veronica Mars, NUMB3RS and Without a Trace. And BONUS: a new show!

So did you miss me while I was gone?

I got back Sunday night, settled in to the comfy couch, and fired up the TIVO.  (Until 3 a.m. -- what the hell is wrong with me?!?)

Three episodes of Everwood:  Finally it's back. FINALLY.  Um, OK, not nearly enough Bright and Hannah in these episodes for me.  And they are so setting Amy and Hannah up for a big fight.  I am so ready for stupid Party-of-Five to be off this show, the whole Nina/Him/Andy triangle bores me. I am also bored by the let's adopt a baby Rose/Harold storyline.  Ephram needs a haircut like I need a boyfriend.  Kyle's character is such a downer.  I'm glad it's back but I'm not loving it.  Or at least not unqualifiedly.

Two episodes of The OC:  OK I had some issues with this show last year and the beginning of this year (hello, Trey was such a loser), and then it seemed like it was getting a little boring.  But now I am loving it again.  Sure it's a total soap opera (hellooooooo), but we all need some soap opera in our lives, don't we.  Marissa macking with the bad boy and doing drugs?  Fun.  Ryan making out with sexy Sadie, super fun.  How is it that he has a big nose, can barely act and yet is a good maker-outer.  I would so make out with him.  I mean, if he wasn't so short.  Seth lying about Brown?  Man, what is he doing?

Two episodes of Veronica Mars:  OK I am still not as happy with this show as I was at the beginning of the season but this is better than the last couple.  George Michael Blunt!!!  As the cutest geeky college boy ever!  Love it.   (Goooooo Arrested Development alums....  Since I am only thru season 1 of AD at this point, I have to say how cute he has skinnied up....)  I so did not expect Troy to a) be on this episode or b) be the boy accused of date rape in this episode (hello I was assuming Logan).  What is the deal with Wallace liking Jackie again?  And did I miss an episode where Jackie became hated for something OTHER than her dad being accused of murder?  I remember the episode when her and Logan were all chummy and making fun of Veronica being nominated but I don't remember some specific "her hitting on other people's boyfriends" as seemed to be suggested?  Have I lost my mind?  Really liked the whole curiosity moment in the last episode with Weevil.

One episode of NUMB3RS:  Hello, sex scenes for Charlie.  AWESOME.  This show is so great.  I am still kind of unhappy about a few changes from last season (don't get me started!!! I'll talk about them some other time) but honestly, I think this is one of the best shows on TV right now.  Super tricky, interesting plot lines, unexpected twists, great relationships between coworkers, friends and family.  And hello Veronica Mars popup:  Sheriff Lamb as Lt. Carnes, looking very hot and getting in an awesome karate kick fight with Colby (who I detest).

So that was Sunday night.  Monday night I got home from work at 9:30, but still could not resist the pull of the TIVO...

One episode of Everwood:  Finally some Bright and Hannah moments!  ANd a really good one.  Smoooooooch, I love you Bright Abbott.  This show is really plugging all the controversial issues to end the season are they not?  Kyle = gay, Amy = working at planned parenthood, Hannah = opposed on abortion? and on the war?, Dr. Abbott = lying about abortion, then proving to be on the other side of the debate...  And Andy Brown almost encouraging an 18 year old to get a preventive double mastectomy and then realizing what an idiot he is.  Pretty good episode.  More Bright&Hannah please!

One episode of NUMB3RS:  Wow, last week Charlie getting hot and heavy, and this week Larry and Meghan go on a date!!!  My Dad and I have been waiting for this to finally happen!  But since when is it appropriate to wear a spagetti strap/off shoulder combo to work?  Especially when you work at the FBI?  So not down with that.  Did however like the side braid on the date.  Even though her character is my #2 least favorite part of the show right now (#1 is Colby).  She's such a huge step down from Sabrina Lloyd.  Still, really thought this episode was great.  And lots of tricky twists in the school shooting case.

One episode of Without a TraceSuper cute skinny boy disappears.  Too bad it wasn't to come to Chicago and pay a late night booty call to my apartment!!  Also a GREAT song playing at the end of this episode, I need to know what it is!!![song was "Reason to Mourn" by Ben Harper on his new album} Danny and Martin are both yummalicious but particularly in the last scene.  Martin really needs to wear hats more.  And jeans.  Yum.  Love a boy who has a cute jean butt.  Looking good in suits is fine, but looking good in jeans is so much more important.

And finally, one episode of Heist, my new show:  I saw the pilot right before I left, and believe this was episode 2.  (Hopefully there was no other episode I missed!!!)  Very fun high-end burglars vs. goofy cops show.  The skinny black/fat white cop combo is really hilarious, the non PC me just cannot get enough of their interactions.  The top burglar hitting up the top detective is a nice twist.  The underlying former wife/daughter now involved with someone who screwed him over is interesting.  Dude from The Practice is rico suavé here.  I think this might turn out to be pretty good....

That's it for me.  Veronica moved to Tuesdays so new episode tonight!  :)

Everwood Returns (while I'm in Oz).

Everwood returns Monday March 27 with TWO new episodes.  Moved from Thursday so it won't have to compete with The O.C.?  Which moved an hour later to share the same time slot, and which sadly I still watch even though it is really sucking ass these days.

Everwood has not been picked up yet by the new WB/UPN combo so apparently they have filmed/are filming two season finales: a cliff hanger (to air if they are picked up), and a series ender (if they're not).

Hannah/Bright is the reason I'm still watching this show after the three-month mid-season hiatus.  Hopefully the writers will give them a good ending.

Is It Déjà-Vu? Or Is Bright Logic Spreading?

Last week's Everwood rerun:

Bright Abbott: "You don't go to a party when you have a girlfriend. That's like taking Ben & Jerry's to 31 Flavors."

Tonight's preview for How I Met Your Mother:

The Dude Formerly Known as Doogie Howser: "You don't bring a date to a wedding. That's like bringing a deer carcass on a hunting trip."
