More on Addison's spin off
From the L.A. Times, some deets on the Grey's Anatomy spin-off.

From the L.A. Times, some deets on the Grey's Anatomy spin-off.
I don't know...I don't see Addison as the kind of person to start feelin' California. She's so New York!
Was I alone in finding the ending to this week's Lost kinda funny? See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya! I am a bad person.
I sat down to write this thinking, "yeah, I liked this episode." Then I started to write and realized, "But it was kinda dumb." So I am of two minds. Curse my capacity to see multiple viewpoints.
Can an episode be that bad if it's got a Billy Dee Williams cameo? Not only that, but a Billy Dee cameo in a show within a show that is later described as "like Baywatch, only better"? Damn, that was funny.
I was particularly impressed with the way certain previous scenes were edited to include Nikki and Paolo. At least, I choose to be impressed with them rather than thinking they're a desperate attempt by the writers to say, "See? They were there all the time!" Though those scenes were probably filmed at the same time the ones that we originally saw were, which lends credence to the idea that the writers know what they're doing.
And yet, what WAS the point of having Nikki and Paolo on the show at all, if they were just going to get buried alive? (::snicker:: sorry. I can't help it.)
I liked that Nikki and Paolo discovered the Pearl station before Locke and Boone even found the plane. But you can't expect me to believe that they didn't tell anyone, anyone at all, like any of the other extras, or I don't know, Locke. Or that it was so easy to find. (Although, now that I think about it, maybe the Others covered it up later). And I liked that Juliet and Ben come into the Pearl station and discuss how to get Jack. But my favorite part of all was watching Paolo hide the diamonds in the toilet tank, because that whole, "Toilet still works" part of that previous episode was, I thought, a stupid cheap laugh. The new information made me think of Charlie, going into the bathroom on the plane to retrieve his heroin.
I don't know why, but I dug that Ethan was wearing a UW sweatshirt.
I loved the new scenes with Dr. Arzt, too. Aw, poor Arzt.
The whole "since I don't have a gun, I'm going to use a poisonous spider" thing was silly. But I did like that the other spiders showed up. I know it's all pheromone-related, but it was also like my worst nightmare. The spiders came because they KNOW you KILLED one of them.
So, yeah. The show kinda felt like filler, but good filler. A tasty snack of granola instead of Doritos. It was also meta and self-referential, which I tend to enjoy. Nikki's "the guest stars always die" and Paolo's "promise me we won't end up like [Boone and Shannon]" were particularly fun. But they weren't dead! But they probably are now! Unless Vincent digs them up in time, but that was a lot of sand, no?
I'm not alone in laughing, am I?
Not sure that I care, but was doing some random research yesterday and found that a) fresh episodes of VM will return May 1 and b) there will be a 2 hour season finale on May 22 (I believe is the date). Whether the show will return next year or not? Still undetermined. (Can't say I plan to watch if it'll be anything like how bad this season has been, or the middle third of last season.)
Really enjoyed Bones last night. Lots of tension between Bones and Booth, between Angela and Hodgins (between Zach and everyone). Loved the bits with the "psychiatrist" and with Angela calling him out at the end. Loved how befuddled Booth can be, yet calmed.
Only quibble: the mystery was too easy. I knew from the get-go who was responsible. Am I to assume it took Booth & Bones so long to figure it out, purely because of the tension? That they were distracted? Not sure if we were supposed to think that or not.
And FYI the lovely song played during the final few scenes was "This Time Comes" by Nina Gordon (formerly of Veruca Salt).
Since I am STILL annoyed with the last two episodes of Grey's, I thought I'd get another dig in before a (presumably?) fresh episode tonight. Does everyone here read the Television Without Pity recaps? Sometimes they just have little bits of opinion as part of the recap, but their recapper is also so steamed at the show, that she's gone full out in this most recent one. Here are some comments I wholeheartedly agree with (linked back to their pages in the recap) [see extended area for these...]
SCRATCH PREVIOUS COMMENT: tonight is a repeat. So we have (at least) another week to stew. Damn it.
I'll post more comments in a few days (for pete's sake, I just posted about last week's episode yesterday!!!), but last night was brilliant!!
To start a second consecutive episode with Tim Riggins rolling around in bed: GENIUS. Thank you, FNL.
Best line of the night came from Billy: "I may not have a PhD in stupid like you do..."
Also thought Lyla had some great points: "Because I love you, STUPID! FIND ANOTHER TEAM! FIND A WAY TO MAKE IT GO AWAY! AND SAY PLEASE!"
Matt to Landry: "I'm just wondering where you're going. Maybe to return some books?"
Smash's speech to Waverley: Amazing!
And the last few scenes juxtaposed: the mix of the light (football) and the heavy (Tyra) on this show is handled JUST RIGHT. Loving it. More later. In a few days. When I've watched it 18 more times.
Although I didn't write about it, and am not a big Dave Matthews fan, I thought the previous episode was really good! And oddly for this show somewhat poignant with the realizations how your dreams for people are not always what's best for them, yadda yadda... And then another strong episode last night. "Riley" 's vaginosis of the mouth was pretty disgUSTing, but I found the whole "he's got something no one can figure out" less annoying than usual (plus the cauterization clue was cool), and of course the Chase/Cameron storyline is pretty fun. I'm enjoying this again after a few tough weeks of House being tooooo icky. Now he's just his normal amount of icky, which is, you know, Fun.
Second week in a row where Alex and Addison were the only characters I wasn't downright steamed at. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Did anyone like this episode? I guess it was marginally better than the previous week's JOKE of a BULLSHIT situation. But basically this was the fifth episode in a row (Yes, FIFTH!!!! The three "does she die ones", then the previous horror show of stupidity, and then THIS) where I have wondered who is writing this crap and did they forget who these people are.
And to those strangers, I have to point out George was always in love with MEREDITH before Callie. Never Izzy. Ridiculous. Just one more reason that storyline makes no sense and is LAME as I have mentioned before. Bogus. Baloney. BAD.
Anyone?
New episode tonight!!!! But first, shall we talk about last week's episode and how fucking incredibly super AWESOME it was?!?! Sooooooooo good.
I've tried about a zillion ways of organizing my thoughts on this episode (things I loved, things that were hilarious, things that were unexpected, things that were awkward...), but in the end, I think I'll go character by character and just drag this out as much as possible... ;)
